  1. MiKTeX 2.4.x unattended full install from local repository:

MiKTeX 2.4 win32 installer has support for unattended installation. Yet for an obvious reason the installer doesn't support the automatic selection (through setupwiz.opt) of distribution size. The problem is that, even if it's normal not to allow users to install the full MiKTeX from a remote repository, it is annoying to discover that the distribution size cannot be selected automatically for a "local" repository. Fortunately there is a way around this problem that strangely isn't very well, if not at all, documented on the web. All the information about the packages in the distribution is stored in miktex-zzdb1.cab and miktex-zzdb2.cab. The important cab for us is miktex-zzdb1.cab that contains just a file (mpm.ini). The line Level=... of each entry in this file indicates for which distribution size the package will be installed. Thus the solution is simple and, for instance, to install every package (full distribution) all you have to do is to modify mpm.ini so that every package has a Level=S (thus will automatically be installed as part of the "small" distribution). To repackage the miktex-zzdb1.cab one may use the makecab utilitary that can be found on any Windows XP Proffesional system (at least on any WinXP Prof SP1+). I didn't test other archivers that can produce cabs! The current version of my own full-distribution installer is based on a vbs script and may be run even from a R/O medium as setupwiz.opt is generated at runtime!
Things have really changed till this old version of MikTeX!!! Please contact me for further details!
